Gear motor counterclockwise

Same specifications, opposite direction

At 1, 1.3, 1.5 and 3.3 revolutions, the gear motor is available both clockwise and counterclockwise with the same shaft and voltage. The two look completely identical, but if the wrong one is fitted, the auger pushes the pellets back into the hopper, and the burn pot remains empty. Therefore, check that the specifications state CCW before ordering. If you are unsure which direction your motor has, the method for reading it is described under clockwise gear motors.

If the old motor has an 8.5 mm shaft or more than 3.3 revolutions, there is no universal counterclockwise model, so the safest option is to choose by brand and model among all gear motors.

When the stove also requires an encoder

Some stoves use an encoder on the motor to check that the auger is actually turning. Here, the new motor must both turn in the correct direction and be a gear motor with encoder, otherwise the stove will trigger an alarm even if the direction is correct. The gear motor is only one of the motors in the pellet stove, and faults involving smoke or heat distribution are related to the flue gas extractor or fan.
