Holder, sleeve or half-moon set
How the igniter is held in place can be seen when the old one is removed. The most common solution is a ring-shaped holder, selected according to the igniter diameter, and Thermorossi has holders adapted to the stove models. Artel and Kalor instead use a sleeve in which the igniter sits, while many Extraflame models have a half-moon set with two clamps that close around the igniter in a 10 mm hole.
All three solutions are for smooth steel igniters. Igniters with thread or flange are secured without a holder, and if the stove requires an adapter for a 3/8" thread, it is an igniter adapterthat must be used.
When the holder needs replacing
A worn holder is evident when the igniter sits loosely, can be pushed back and forth or is positioned crookedly in relation to the burn pot. The holder may also be deformed, cracked or corroded by heat. If the ignition tip is positioned incorrectly, the heat does not reach the pellets, and ignition becomes slow or fails, even with a new igniter.
A holder costs a fraction of an igniter, so it is worth replacing it at the same time if it is marked by heat. If the new igniter does not fit in the holder, check the diameter and length of the old one and find a corresponding one under custom-size igniter. If the igniter itself also needs to be selected, the full range is under igniter.
